Abstract

-Abstract-
Chlorhexidine has been widely used in dentistry due to its effectiveness on plaque
control and antibacterial action. Recently, interest in chewing gums as a vehicle for
antibiotics or antiseptics has increased. We attempted a new approach using local
delivery system containing chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine was incorporated into
nanoparticles using acrylic copolymers, Eudragit. Several combination of Eudragit based
on RS or RL and chlorhexidine were dissolved in ethanol and pored into water phase.
Nanoparticles containing chlorhexidine were prepared spontaneously. Nanoparticle
suspension was concerntrated by evaporation. The mean diameter of nanoparticles was
about 160-178§¬ for all type polymers with a good dispersion index as 0.1 or 0.2.
Incorporation ratios of chlorhexidine was about 63.8£¥. Nanoparticles were charged
positively with 29mV.
